Deca Ironman World Cup: Gustavo Vieira Takes 2nd Place

In the world of ultra-endurance sports, few challenges test the human body — and spirit — like the Deca Ironman Continuous.
Ten full Ironman triathlons back-to-back. No scheduled rest. Just raw grit, faith, and determination.

From July 12 to 26, 2025, in Łowicz and Mysłaków, Poland, Brazilian ultra-endurance athlete Gustavo Vieira, now based in Dublin, Ireland, etched his name deeper into the sport’s history by claiming 2nd place at the Deca Ironman World Cup.

The numbers alone are staggering:

  • 38 km of swimming
  • 1,800 km of cycling
  • 422 km of running

All completed in one continuous push — a feat that most would call impossible.

An Achievement Beyond Limits

What makes Gustavo’s podium finish even more extraordinary is what came before Poland.
Just three days earlier, he had crossed the finish line in Colmar, France, completing a Quintuple Ultra Triathlon Continuous (five consecutive Ironman triathlons without stopping):

  • 19 km swim
  • 900 km bike
  • 211 km run

For most athletes, such an effort would demand weeks — if not months — of recovery. For Gustavo, it was simply the next step in a year defined by purpose and perseverance.

“The body trains, faith sustains.”

This Time, a Team Behind Him

Unlike his earlier race in South Africa — where he competed without a dedicated crew — Gustavo arrived in Poland with a support team of close friends who made all the difference.

  • @phpigozzi, a talented videographer, joined not only to cheer Gustavo on but also to capture his journey for an upcoming documentary. Between filming, he was there in the trenches — keeping Gustavo’s spirits high and helping manage the day-to-day race grind, they were also supported by @spedronlucas providing essential care throughout the event — from preparing hot drinks in the cold hours of the night to making quick meals between stages.

These weren’t just crew members; they were long-time friends, sharing laughter, faith, and the weight of the challenge together.

The Spirit of Mysłaków and Its Host

The 2025 Deca Ironman in Mysłaków was brought to life by Tomasz Lus of Poland — both a competitor and the event’s dedicated host. Tomasz is a respected figure in the endurance sports community, known for his meticulous race organization, boundless energy, and personal care for athletes.

But Tomasz was just the start. The entire town embraced the event. Families opened their doors, volunteers worked day and night, and children ran alongside the athletes offering cheers. Shops, cafes, and local residents rallied behind the race — proving that in Mysłaków, endurance is a community affair.

“The community lifted our spirits every single day. Their kindness was as powerful as any energy gel,” Gustavo said.

One Race, Five Competitors — One Team

The Deca Ironman in Mysłaków saw five determined athletes take on the extreme 38 km swim, 1,800 km bike, and 422 km run:

  • Goulwenn Tristant (France) — 🥇 1st place, 260:01:45
  • Gustavo Vieira (Brazil/Ireland) — 🥈 2nd place, 300:11:42
  • Shanda Hill (Canada) — 🥇 Women’s winner, 289:58:02
  • Lia Sterciuc (USA) — 🥈 Women’s 2nd place, 294:42:32
  • Tomasz Lus (Poland) — DNF but a driving force behind the event

While the event was competitive, the ultra-endurance community is famously united. Competitors often help each other through low moments, share resources, and celebrate each other’s victories.

Gustavo holds special gratitude for Shanda Hill, not only for her inspiration as a fellow athlete, but also for her generosity. In South Africa, when Gustavo raced without a support crew, Shanda’s team repeatedly stepped in to assist him — offering food, drinks, and encouragement when it was needed most.

That same spirit of mutual care was alive in Mysłaków, where even in the heat of competition, these athletes lifted each other up.

Faith That Moves. Purpose That Sustains.

Gustavo shares his journey through his Instagram @ultragustavovieira — combining race footage, training insights, and biblical reflections.
He also founded EnduranceFaith, a brand that unites performance, purpose, and spirituality.

“Move with purpose. Live by the Word.”

The journey continues. From November 9–23, 2025, Gustavo will take on yet another Deca Ironman Continuous — this time in Taiwan.
A new country. A new climate. A new terrain.
One more chance to inspire through faith, discipline, and relentless endurance.
